PLEASE NOTE: This campaign has now ended. Tragically, the abortion-to-birth bill was passed by SA's lower house of Parliament on 19 February 2021.
South Australian state MPs are about to vote on a bill that would legalise abortion right up to birth.
The bill is being put forward under the guise of “decriminalisation” – a tactic used by abortion proponents interstate – but it's about so much more than that!
- The Termination of Pregnancy Bill would permit abortion for any reason up to 22 weeks and 6 days’ gestation – and beyond that (right up to birth) if two doctors agree it is “appropriate”.
- Women seeking an abortion will no longer need to attend a hospital in an attempt to liberalise the use of do-it-at-home chemical abortions, e.g. RU486.
- Health practitioners will also have their right to conscientious objection severely eroded. They will be required to participate in an abortion in cases of “emergency” and must at all times refer patients seeking an abortion to another health practitioner (in other words, making them a party to the act).
The bill is almost certain to be voted on this week, as Parliament resumes on Tuesday, 16 February.
It’s absolutely critical that we speak up NOW. This really is our LAST CHANCE.
